Homoeopathy is a therapeutic method introduced by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann based onHomoeotreatments.com the Law of similar ‘similia similibus curentur’. Which means let ‘likes be treated by likes’. ‘Homoios’ means similar and ‘pathos’ means suffering. Thus Homoeopathy is a system of treating diseases or sufferings by the administration of drugs which possess the power of producing similar sufferings in a healthy human being. This law of similar for curing diseases has been in use since the time of Hippocrates, Father of Medicine. But it was Dr.Samuel Hahnemann who developed it into a complete system of therapeutics.

Dr. Samuel Hahnemann was an allopathic physician and was not interested with those days treatment methodology such as blood letting, venesection, cupping, purgatives, starvation, which were believed to be required to restore the health. So he decided to relinquish his practice and concentrated in literary works. His literary works comprised chiefly translations of medical works.

Homoeotreatments.comIn 1790 while Dr: Hahnemann was translating cullen’s Materia Medica into German heHomoeotreatments.com came across the ague curing properties of cinchona bark. He felt dissatisfied with the theoretical explanation of the febrifuge properties of cinchona bark that it possessed specific febrifuge actions because of its aromatic and bitter properties. Hahnemann argued hat while it does cure some cases it does not cure other cases. He decided to prove the drug on himself. He prepared tincture from fresh cinchona bark and took it twice daily. On the same day he was attacked with cold, fever and similar symptoms to the fever of marshes appeared. Thus the curative power of drug was found out. That is, a drug which is capable of producing disease like symptoms in healthy human body can cure a similar disease condition. Thus ‘similia similibus curantur was found which means let likes be treated by likes. This led to the discovery of Homoeopathy in 1796.

The fundamental principles of Homoeopathy includes:
Law of similar   This 3 laws are the cardinal principles of homoeopathy.
    Law of simplex

   Law of minimum

Doctrine of drug proving
Doctrine of drug dynamisation
Doctrine of vital force
Acute and chronic diseases
Law of similar: According to this law of similar the medicine administrated to a disease individual if given to a healthy person it will produce similar sufferings as found in the diseased individual.
Law of Simplex: Simple and single drugs are prescribed at a time.
Law of minimum: Drugs are administrated in a minimum quantity.
Doctrine of drug proving: The curative power of a drug is known by proving the drug    single on healthy human being.

Doctrine of drug dynamisation: Disease is a disturbance in the normal harmonious
flow of life force, which is dynamic in nature. So the medicines should have dynamic action to act on the dynamic disturbance of life force. This dynamisation or potentisation is done by the process of succussions and triturations as a result the quantity of medicine decreases and the quality increases.

Doctrine of vital force: Vital force is responsible for the health of an individual. In the healthy condition of man the spiritual vital force, the dynamis that animatesthe material body rules with unbounded sway and retains all the parts of the organism in admirable harmonious vital operation as regards both  sensations and functions. So that our indwelling reason gifted mind can freely employ this living healthy instrument for the higher purpose of our existence. Health is the harmonious flow of vital force and disease is the disharmonious flow of vital force giving rise to abnormal sensations & functions. Diseases and health are two different qualitative states of this vital force and cure is to be effected here.

Acute and chronic diseases: Dr Hahnemann classified diseases into acute and
chronic according to the onset, progress and termination  based upon miasms. Miasms are the morbific disease producing dynamic powers or any noxious emanation or effluvia or polluting factors. Acute miasm causes acute diseases chronic miasms include psora, syphilis and sycosis. Psora being the fundamental cause of all chronic diseases.

Individualisation: Medicines can never be prescribed simply on the name of disease without individualizing each case of disease. Since no two individuals are alike therefore the disease effecting different individuals can never be the same. So each case should be individualized and then treated. Thus cure occurs Dr.Hering’s law of cure states that cure takes place from within outward , from above downward and symptoms disappear in the reverse order of their appearance. If the direction is reverse then it is not cure but suppression.

  Organon of medicine:
  Organon of medicine is the textbook of Homoeopathy written by  Dr.Samuel Hahnemann. It consists of the code of principles which conducts the cure according to the law of similars. The text describes the essential requirements in  curing a disease which includes;
Investigation of diseases
Investigation of the effect of medicines
The correct mode of employment of medicines in disease.

The first edition of organon was published in 1810, 2nd edition in 1819, 3rd edition in 1824, 4th edition 1829, 5the edition in 1833 and the 6th edition in 1921.
In this text book of organon Hahnemann states that the physicians high and only missionis to restore the sick to health. The highest ideal of cure is rapid gentle and permanentrestoration of health or removal and annihilation of the disease in its whole extent in theshortest most reliable and most harmless way on easily comprehensible principles.
Homoeopathic Medicines are prepared from vegetable  kingdom, animal kingdom, mineral  kingdom, and nosodes.
